The Plan

“Somebody once asked
Could I spare some change for gas
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep what a concept
I could use a little fuel my self
And we could all use a little change”

I was looking for a quote about change to kick this thing off, and this is what I kept coming up with.  So I thought why not begin with the immortal words of Smashmouth.

With the New Year stretching out ahead of me I decided to take on some large new year’s resolutions, and to start a blog to bring a little accountability and to keep me writing.  And, well, isn’t that how it works – you come up with a big idea, write a blog, make a million dollars.  I know there might be one or two steps in between, but I’m pretty sure that’s the equation.  Big idea +blog = millions of dollars raining from the sky, nailed it.

So I am looking to bring some change into my life in 300 different ways.
This year I am planning to:
Loose 100 lbs
Give or throw away 100 things
Log 100 ½ hours of exercise

The main reason for this whole project is because I need to believe in change.  See, over the last five years or so I was faced with something that I could not change, an illness of a loved one.  Slowly this idea seeped into the rest of my life, convincing me that other things could not be different either.  I have been overweight; I will always be overweight.  I have been cluttered; I will always be cluttered.  I never stick with anything; I never will.

But I believe in an almighty God, not a “kind of mighty” God or a “mighty on the weekend” God, almighty.  If I believe that God has the power to save my soul, and I do, if I think He can save someone from addiction to drugs and alcohol, and I do, then why do I think that these struggles, these certain shackles in my life, are somewhere outside of His control?

I decided that I believe in change because I believe in a God who changes lives. So this year I’ll start with mine.

This is what this blog will be: me talking about attempting to reach those goals.  There will be some recipes and some anecdotes about running.  There will be some reminiscing as I downsize my house, and, I am sure, some confessions when I stumble on this journey (and I really promise to keep my use of the word “journey” to a minimum.  Well, unless we are talking about the band, or if I take a midnight train going anywhere.)

I will talk a little about what I am learning about myself and what the Lord is teaching me and you will probably learn more about me then you ever needed to know.

So thanks for reading the first one. Here. We. Go.
